UNED Spotlights the SUTEE Project on National Radio: Bridging Urban Nature and IoT Technology
On
The SUTEE project was recently featured in a special segment of the “UNED Sin Distancias” (No distances) program on Spanish National Radio (RNE). The broadcast highlighted how cutting-edge technology is being used to foster environmental awareness among the younger generation in dense metropolitan areas.
During the program, Bernardo Tabuenca and Sergio Martin discussed the project’s mission to transform urban trees into educational tools. By deploying Internet of Things (IoT) sensors SUTEE allows students and teachers to monitor environmental data such as air quality, noise levels, and soil moisture in real-time. This “digital ecosystem” aims to combat urban heat islands and promote biodiversity conservation through hands-on, inquiry-based learning.
“Our goal is to provide young citizens with the tools to understand and protect their environment,” stated the researchers during the recording. The SUTEE project represents a significant step forward in integrating technology into ecological education, ensuring that the cities of the future are not only smarter but also greener and more sustainable.
The full recording and its transcripts are now available through the UNED Media portal, serving as a resource for educators interested in the intersection of technology and climate action: https://canal.uned.es/video/69b3f953f94b4fc303094510
