Pilot collaboration with IES Palomeras-Vallecas

We’re excited to announce a new collaboration between the SUTEE project and the IES Palomeras-Vallecas, a vocational education high school located in Madrid (school website). This partnership marks the beginning of a series of pilot activities designed to engage students in hands-on environmental monitoring within their urban school context.

In this pilot, teachers and students will work together to measure environmental pollution variables around the school campus. These include:

  • Air quality,
  • Noise levels, and
  • Light pollution

Measurements will be taken at different facades of the school building using digital sensors and IoT devices. The collected data will be used to generate heatmaps visualizing pollution patterns, helping students and teachers to identify sources of environmental stress and analyze how urban infrastructure and vegetation interact.

🌳 A key objective of the activity is to explore the role of vegetation coverage—trees, shrubs, and green spaces—in mitigating pollution. By comparing measurements in areas with and without green cover, students will gain valuable insights into the benefits of urban nature, not just in theory, but in the context of their own school.

This initiative reflects the SUTEE project’s commitment to making environmental education tangible, data-driven, and rooted in real-life urban scenarios. We look forward to sharing the results and learning outcomes of this collaboration in the coming weeks!
