Testing a Noise Meter App for Android in Madrid

During the 3rd Transnational Project Meeting for the “SUTEE: Showcasing Urban Trees for Environmental Education with IoT Technology” project, held in Madrid, Spain, on January 22 and 23, 2025, project partners explored various IoT and sensor technologies. Among these, a noise meter app for Android devices was tested to evaluate its potential for environmental education and urban studies.

The noise meter app enabled participants to measure sound levels in real-time across different locations during the excursion. The app’s interface allowed for easy data collection and visualization, making it a user-friendly tool for both educational and professional purposes.

Testing highlighted the impact of urban environments on sound levels. For instance, noise readings near a busy intersection were significantly higher than in a quieter park setting. Partners also tested the app in enclosed areas, comparing readings to outdoor environments, which provided valuable insights into the app’s accuracy and adaptability.

The noise meter app demonstrated its ability to capture sound pollution data effectively, helping users better understand noise distribution in urban areas. This kind of tool not only raises awareness of noise pollution but also offers opportunities for integrating sound level monitoring into environmental education programs.

Through this hands-on testing, partners affirmed the potential of such apps to enhance environmental projects like SUTEE by providing additional layers of data for urban ecosystem analysis.
