{"id":2011,"date":"2025-07-23T09:10:49","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T08:10:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sutee.eu\/?p=2011"},"modified":"2025-10-14T09:18:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T08:18:03","slug":"outstanding-bachelors-thesis-linked-to-sutee-earns-top-honors-at-upm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sutee.eu\/index.php\/2025\/07\/23\/outstanding-bachelors-thesis-linked-to-sutee-earns-top-honors-at-upm\/","title":{"rendered":"Outstanding bachelor&#8217;s thesis linked to SUTEE earns top honors at UPM"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We are proud to share the successful completion of a <strong>Bachelor\u2019s Final Project<\/strong> at the <strong>School of Computer Systems Engineering (ETSISI)<\/strong> at <strong>Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Madrid<\/strong>, which was <strong>partially funded by the SUTEE project<\/strong> and co-supervised by two core SUTEE team members, <strong>Prof. Vicente Garc\u00eda<\/strong> and <strong>Prof. Carlos Gilarranz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project, titled <strong>&#8220;Sistema hidrop\u00f3nico inteligente&#8221;<\/strong>, was carried out by students <strong>\u00c1lvaro Garc\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong> and <strong>Diego P\u00e9rez Gar\u00ed<\/strong>, and defended on <strong>July 23, 2025<\/strong>, within the <strong>Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in Computer Engineering<\/strong>. Their work received the highest academic distinction: <strong>matr\u00edcula de honor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thesis presents the <strong>design, development, and implementation of a smart hydroponic system<\/strong> based on <strong>IoT technologies<\/strong> aimed at automating and monitoring soilless crop cultivation. Hydroponics offers a sustainable alternative to traditional farming by addressing challenges such as water scarcity, climate change, and limited arable land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system was built using a <strong>prototyping development methodology<\/strong> that allowed iterative validation of hardware and software components. Using <strong>an ESP32 microcontroller<\/strong> and the <strong>Espressif IDE<\/strong>, the team implemented modules for real-time control, sensor integration, and environmental data management.
