Goethe University is home to a thriving community of over 48,000 students, including around 7,600 international students from some 136 different countries. Goethe University is the third largest university in Germany and employs more than 3,500 scientists and about 2.000 administrative staff members. The University is governed by a strongly democratic and inclusive process that involves faculty, students, and members of the administration and community. There are three primary governing bodies: the Executive Board, the University Council, and the Senate. International activity runs deep in the DNA of Goethe University.<\/p>

Founded in 1914 as a civic institution the University’s engagement with the general public, the private sector, government, and other universities extends well beyond national borders. From student exchange to collaborative research projects and strategy learning, Goethe University’s international activity contributes directly to its ambitious goals in teaching, research and third mission.<\/p>

As a founding member of German U15, the association of Germany’s leading research universities, Goethe University is an active member of numerous international associations and networks such as the European University Association, the GATE Germany consortium and the ERASMUS+ network. Goethe University maintains partnerships and collaborative projects with around 700 universities in more than 80 countries across the globe.<\/p>

This includes 280 institutions within the ERASMUS+ programme. Goethe University makes a continual effort to promote good teaching. It is not, after all, a simple thing to accomplish, and may be different within the culture of each discipline. It comes about in an environment of motivated teachers and students. It is strengthened by clear guidelines, good framework conditions, funding options, and the availability of advisory and support services.<\/p>

Due to the high number of student teachers (about 14 percent), Goethe University cooperates with many partner schools of all school types in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. The close cooperation between university and school promotes the transfer of innovations and enables the linking of science and application. Studiumdigitale – the Center for Education and Technology Innovation of the Goethe University – develops and researches new forms of efficient, effective and enjoyable learning with technology in School and Higher Education.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Prof. Dr. Alexander Tillmann is Managing Director of studiumdigitale, the central institution for innovations in digital teaching at Goethe University and apl. Professor of Geography Education. Michael Eichhorn is an educational scientist and works in the media didactics department of studiumdigitale at Goethe University Frankfurt. His expertise lies in the areas of online and blended teaching, instructional design and academic educational development.
